We currently own and operate 14 radio stations in Seattle, Phoenix, Denver and Salt Lake City, along with the NBC Affiliate TV station, KSL TV 5 in Salt Lake. Position: We are pleased to announce the availability of a production internship for "Studio 5", a live talk/information show airing mornings on KSL Television. We are looking for students who are interested in a NON-PAID learning opportunity, where they can extend their education beyond the classroom. The position is ideal for the student interested in pursuing a career as a producer in a television environment.

The internship will cover a quarter/semester period during January - April with approximately 20 hours per week. The hours are TBD, but will be M-Th between 9am-5pm. The intern, intern supervisor, and inter academic advisor will arrange the exact schedule.

Purpose: Under the direction of the assigned internship supervisor, this KSL programming internship is designed to provide students with a strong interest in broadcast communications an opportunity to be involved with the daily production of a live television talk show. Assignments might include: contributing and researching story ideas; updating daily website content; scheduling and booking guests; and writing topical promotions and teases.

Qualifications:

  • Interns must be registered at a university, college, community college or vocational-technical institute on a full-time basis.
  • Working toward a career in broadcast communications
  • In good academic standing and possessing knowledge of current events
  • Organized, able to meet deadlines and be a self-starter
  • Proven ability to be precise and accurate
  • Good writing, production and conversational skills to transmit information clearly and efficiently
  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management and clients
  • Proven ability to handle stress
  • Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor
  • Must sign and abide by the Internship Agreement
  • Preference given to students of Junior/Senior status or in the last year of a community college or vocational-technical program

Physical Demands:

  • Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Receive, process and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively
  • Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination
  • Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion

  • Letter from applicant's university/college/school verifying arrangement of credit for internship (must be submitted before internship begins)
